Estrogen alert
First, I would like to thank everyone that read my first blog (all 20 of you, wow). I would also like to that the only person that left a comment, thanks Dad. Unfortunately, he was wrong about the Blue Jays being good, but he did get me on watching NASCAR - though only the highlights. Who can pass up the highlights of NASCAR and see the accidents; it’s like flipping past the show Cops during a chase or a beat down - you stop, laugh, wait until it get boring and then you move on.
I know the title might be a little confusing but this is about the recent comments about Jason Isringhausen, and Eric Gagne. They were both reported to say that they don’t deserve to be the closers for their team, and don’t want the ball in the ninth inning. To me this strikes a nerve and is wrong in many ways. I know lets make a list.
1) Who doesn’t want the ball? Any pitcher that isn’t a starter wants to be the closer, it’s the next best thing. It’s a mind set that no one can hit me and I will strike out everyone I see. Those comments nailed the lid on their careers.
2) Why go public? Any chance of you getting over this quickly is gone. Any chance of the team, that you say you care about and don’t want to blow games for, had of trading you and getting better is gone.
3) Both in contract years. I used to remember when someone couldn’t keep up we took him out back and shot him. Even more recently we got rid of them. Well guess what? I don’t think either of these players will be with their current team next year.
4) If you really did this for the team, give the money back. Isringhausen makes $8 million this year, I say give back 200,000 for every blown save this season and call it even.
5) I can’t feel to bad for Milwaukee I knew what they were getting and couldn’t be happier, I would love to see them finish dead last (still a Cubs fan). This guy hasn’t been the same for the last two years prior. What did you expect, Gagne gets better with age?
6) Isringhausen still has a chance of coming back if he can get some of Ankiel’s stash away from Pujols. Remember pass it to the left.
Personally I have lost all respect for these players, not for what they feel, but for how the way it came out. If Bill Belichik was a baseball coach he wouldn’t need a camera for these guys.
Lastly we have a new segment for my blog. Since I don’t want to do a list every week I am going to weekly Roger Clemens joke until I run out.
Is that a rocket in your pocket or is there a 15-year-old country singer behind me? Zing
